Reading Reaction "One Man's Kids" - - Unit 4

I am an S.I. (Supplemental Intruction) at Butte College; I help people better understand the course that they are taking. I show up in their class as a regular student, and after class; I have weekly meetings three times a week to all that need help in that certain course. As an S.I. I have to wait in the meeting room until someone shows up. Usually no one ever shows, so I never have anything to do while I'm working. Although, when I am at work; and I have nothing to do, I usually do multiple tasks to keep me busy, such as:
-Listen to music on my Zune
-Do homework
-Study for my classes
-Draw on the white board
-Write in cursve ( I know...kinda of wierd!)
-Sleep(my fav.)
-Watch people as they walk by the meeting room
-make phone calls (that's if I get reception)
-Talk to people I know that I see pass by
-Talk to myself (if no one is around...and once again...I know, I'm weird)
And that should probably keep me busy for the hour that I'm waiting for someone (no one) to show up.

My Hometown

I was born and raised in Chico, Ca. I love Chico, not only because I was born here, but because of the history, landscape, and just the people that live here in Chico. At most cities, if someone were to say hi to someone else, they get a strange look on their face, as if saying, "I don't know you, why they hell are you saying hi to me!" kind of look. People here in Chico are nicer than any other place. Even if you don't know the person that you pass by in Chico, you can still wave or say hi to them, and you too will get a nice greet in return.
The history that Chico has is just unbelievable. Even though I've lived here my whole life, I didn't know much about Chico history until recently. A man from So Cal came to Chico about a year ago, to learn about the history of Chico. Of course, everyone in Chico knows about John Bidwell, the man who discovered Chico. Most people don't know, but Mr. Bidwell had all this land and he donated part of his land to go to the parks we have to day; which by the way, Chico has one of the biggest parks in the US, and land for our college Chico State University to go on. Also some other history about Chico, is there was a man that went to Chico State, he dropped out to invent beer; which is now known as Sierra Nevada. All of Sierra Nevada beer is brewed here in Chico at the Sierra Nevada Brewery. Everything made to perfection and home-grown plants to help make the beer.
As for the landscape; Chico is known for having the most greenery. I love Chico, becuase through out the seasons, no matter what Chico looks like, everything still looks beautiful. My favorite part of Chico is driving down Esplanade in Autumn and Spring. Esplanade always looks beautiful around that time. I'm proud to be a Chicoan

Deserted Island

Being on a deserted island would get a little lonely if I were by myself, so if I were on a deserted island, I would bring my best friend, Katie Romer, and basically everyone I know. Katie and I have known each other since we were in 8th grade. We have been through everything together. She is my other half, as she says, "We're basically attached at the hip!" I would bring everyone i know, only because there has to be more people on the island, then just my best friend and I. Not only would I bring my best friend along, but I would also bring my Zune with it's whole system. I love music and I would not be able to live without it. The last thing that I would bring, is an endless supply of food and water. You can't survive in an island if you don't have food and water. So, of course, that would be the last thing that I would bring with me, if I was on a deserted island

Giving What Is Needed

If I had the time to volunteer, I would volunteer to many places that I could. First off, I would volunteer at the Butte Humanes Society in Chico. I love being around animals; especially dogs. I would want to groom, walk, and play with the animals. And of course I guess I could do the usual clean of their "left-overs." Another place that I would like to volunteer at; is to help in the Special Olympics and work with the Mentally Challenged. My mother's friend, Thea, is mentally challenged; and I love her as if she was my aunt. I've known her since I was born. She is in the Special Olympics, and she has always told me that I would do well in helping others; just like her. Another place, would have to be the the elderly. I would want to go there and help them with whatever they need. Either it is just to keep them company or just to help and take care of them. The last place that I would want to volunteer at is a hospital with the children who have had or is going through cancer. I want to be the person that they look up to as a role model. I want to play a part in their life as their friend or their big sister.

Reading Reaction: "I Wish" -- Unit 3

When I was younger, I remember going camping to The Potato Patch with my family, my aunt, uncle and my cousins. We would go at the beginning of summer and had so much fun. On our way there, I would always like to lie in the back of the van (they had a very big van) and watch the sky as we drove to the camp site. It was like staring at huge cotton balls floating in the sky. My cousin and I would always just lay there and try to identify all the different designs that we could see in the sky. One time we went, I remember we were at a rest stop, my uncle and my boy cousins got out to use the restroom (we were in the middle of nowhere in the forest) while my aunt, my cousin Lucia and I stayed in the car. I suddenly saw my uncle and my cousins running back to car, with terror on their faces: They were being chased by a bear! I have never seen them so scared; it was a big laugh for me.
Once we got to the camp site, we all set up our tents. Our spot was the best of from all other sites. We were right by the river and restrooms. It was always fun to unpack everything. Everyone would race, to see who could get all their stuff unpacked first, and whoever won would get to have his/her choice for dinner; my uncle always won!
My favorite part about going camping was that my uncle would take his 4-wheelers and we'd all get to go 4-wheeling around the forest. I also enjoyed going fishing, having a camp fire and of course; taking a swim in the river. I don’t know why, but these were my favorite events, probably because they were different. I will never forget the times we all went and I recommend camping to everyone to especially at the Potato Patch.

Difficult...Just Simply Difficult!

To most people, making a difficult decision isn't usually school related. For me, it was. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life; basically school wise. I wasn't sure if I REALLY wanted to be an Architect, Plastic Surgeon, or an Interior Designer. It was just hard for me, becuase my life so far came so fast. I wasn't sure what to do, and what to think about. All I knew was that I was going to be a Senior in high school in 2006 and I didn't have a plan for myself. I wanted to have a plan, but then I took a class called Engineering & CAD I. I had so much fun that class. Not just interacting with the students and my teacher, but the actual subject. It interested me so much that I finally decided that, that is what I want to do with my life when I go to college.
Now, I'm finally in college; and I know what I want to d0. The hard part, is getting there. I know that it will be a long time for (since I'm planning on getting my PhD) me to be able to acheive my goal, but I am determinted to get there.
To most that probably isn't a difficult decision to make, but it is for me.

Changing laws

So far, my feelings towards our laws are fine by me. I really can't think of any law(s) that I would like or could change, but I figured that if I just started typing and thinkging that is would just come to me. Alright, I finally have one; I would like to change some of the laws of driving. Why does it matter if someone does a California roll?! At least they paused, and most likely they looked before they went, that's probably why ther person driving went before completely stopping. It's just dumb when the police pull you over just becuase you made a California roll when there isn't anyone around or even on coming traffic. It's just ridiculous. I really can't think of anything else; there are really no other laws that I would want to change. So, this is the end of my journal number 16
